A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable, Pappu Yadav, was found dead early Wednesday morning at the Mingachal camp in Chhattisgarh's Bijapur district. According to law enforcement officials, Yadav had allegedly shot himself with his service weapon, a situation that has prompted an ongoing investigation.
Yadav, hailing from Thakuri village in Bihar's Bhojpur district, had only returned to duty on Tuesday after a period of leave. The CRPF constable's unexpected death highlights a concerning trend of suicides among security personnel in the region, with 177 cases reported between 2019 and mid-2025.
With 26 of these cases involving CRPF personnel, authorities are intensifying efforts to understand and mitigate the factors driving these tragic incidents. The government addressed the disturbing statistics during the recent monsoon session of the Chhattisgarh assembly. Yadav's remains will be sent to his hometown following the postmortem.
