Trump Optimistic on China's Fair Trade Deal

U.S. President Donald Trump expressed confidence on Wednesday in progressing trade negotiations with China. He anticipates a fair agreement, describing the ongoing talks as moving smoothly.

Trump's comments came as he briefed reporters at the White House, highlighting that U.S. and Chinese officials engaged in over five hours of discussions in Stockholm aimed at resolving longstanding economic disagreements. These talks are part of efforts to extend the current truce in their trade war by three months.

The urgency in negotiations comes as China faces an August 12 deadline to establish a sustainable tariff agreement with the U.S. Previously, the two nations reached initial accords in May and June to de-escalate tit-for-tat tariffs. Meanwhile, the Trump administration continues to forge new trade agreements with other global partners, including the European Union, Britain, and Japan.
