AIMIM leader Imtiaz Jaleel on Thursday called on the Maharashtra government to challenge the acquittal of seven individuals linked to the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast. Jaleel's appeal follows the decision of a special court in Mumbai to free all seven accused, including former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur.
Jaleel raised concerns about the identity of the real perpetrators, referencing the recent acquittal of 12 individuals in the 2006 Mumbai train blasts by the Bombay High Court. He highlighted the prolonged imprisonment of those wrongly accused in the 7/11 bombings, emphasizing the state's objection to their release.
He cautioned that failure to appeal the Malegaon case verdict in the High Court may prompt the apex court to intervene. Urging impartial review of the acquittal, he stressed the need for swift justice in such cases, lamenting that, despite years of waiting, the masterminds remain unidentified.
