Supreme Court Extends Stay on Defamation Trial Against Shashi Tharoor
The Supreme Court has extended the stay on trial court proceedings against Congress MP Shashi Tharoor in a defamation case. Tharoor's remarks, allegedly comparing Prime Minister Modi to 'a scorpion on a Shivling,' led to the case. The high court had initially refused to quash the proceedings.

The Supreme Court, while questioning the complainant's lawyer on his sensitivity, extended the stay on trial court actions against Shashi Tharoor in a defamation case. The case arose from Tharoor's controversial remarks involving Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Justices M M Sundresh and N Kotiswar Singh granted the extension following Tharoor's legal team's request for adjournment. The complainant, BJP's Rajeev Babbar, seeks a hearing on a non-miscellaneous day, to which the bench responded by scheduling further discussions for September 15.
Tharoor contested the Delhi High Court's previous decision that refused to dismiss the defamation proceedings, citing the non-involvement of the complainant as an aggrieved party. The case hinges on Tharoor referencing an older article that metaphorically described Modi's perceived invincibility.
