In a swift administrative move following the tragic stampede at Avsaneshwar Temple in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, which resulted in two fatalities, Shams Tabrez Khan, Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Haidergarh, has been removed from his position. The official order named Rajesh Vishwakarma as the new Sub-Divisional Magistrate on site.
The decision came as a response to widespread public dissatisfaction regarding inadequate arrangements during the significant religious gatherings. Contrary to the official stance, local whispers suggested that Khan was notably absent during critical times. Other key officials, including the tehsildar, were also reportedly missing.
Upon assuming his role, Vishwakarma inspected the temple and surrounding areas, implementing immediate safety measures at the Gomti River ghat. Strict orders were issued to prevent further security oversights, with mandatory ambulance presence and increased police deployment for ensuing events. The incident initially sparked when a broken electrical wire caused panic and a subsequent stampede.
