A tribal woman in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district has been granted the state's first permanent house under a new government initiative, officials announced on Friday.
Under the Chhattisgarh Naxal Surrender/Victim Relief and Rehabilitation Policy-2025, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has greenlit the provision of homes to victims of Maoist violence and former Naxalites via the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) scheme.
Sodi Hungi, who lost her husband to Naxal violence in 2005, is the first to benefit from this policy, living for decades in substandard conditions. The state vetted and approved her for a new home, completed with comprehensive support from several government initiatives.
