The Karnataka government has initiated a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to address serious allegations of mass burials in Dharmasthala, a high-profile case prompting the state's comprehensive scrutiny of digital media for inciting content.
Claims emerged from an anonymous former sanitation worker who alleged being coerced into burying numerous bodies, some with signs of sexual assault, from 1995 to 2014. Home Minister G Parameshwara emphasized the government's vigilance against potentially inflammatory online posts.
SIT leader Pronab Mohanty, amid speculation about a central government posting, reassured that his meeting with Parameshwara was unrelated to the ongoing investigation. The administration continues to tackle hate speech and fake news regulations.
