In a grand ceremony held in Patna, Bihar, Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan marked the release of the 20th instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) Yojana. The auspicious event, coinciding with the holy month of Sawan, witnessed a massive turnout of farmers, state officials, and dignitaries, showcasing the government’s commitment to agrarian welfare.

The ceremony was graced by Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister Shri Vijay Sinha, Cooperative Minister Shri Prem Kumar, and a host of other senior officials. It was not only a celebration of the direct benefit transfer to crores of farmers but also a reaffirmation of the Centre’s pro-farmer policies under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

A Tribute to Farmers and Bihar's Rich Heritage

Addressing the jubilant crowd, Shri Chouhan began with heartfelt appreciation for the lakhs of farmers, especially women, who attended the gathering. He hailed the role of farmers as the soul of the nation and agriculture as its economic backbone. "Serving the farmers is our utmost responsibility," he declared, emphasizing the Centre's unwavering focus on agricultural development.

The Union Minister lauded Bihar’s cultural, historical, and agricultural significance, invoking the legacy of Lord Buddha’s penance, Maa Ganga’s blessings, and Mahatma Gandhi’s Champaran Satyagraha. “The land of Bihar has given the country not only food security but also philosophical and revolutionary thought,” he remarked.

Rs. 20,000 Crore Disbursed Directly to Farmers

Highlighting the scale of the PM-KISAN initiative, Shri Chouhan announced that over ₹20,000 crore had been deposited into the accounts of eligible farmers nationwide in this installment alone. The cumulative disbursement under the scheme has now crossed a remarkable ₹3.77 lakh crore, credited directly through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring transparency and eliminating leakages.

He reminded the gathering of the days when only a fraction of government funds would reach the actual beneficiaries. “Earlier, when ₹1 was sent by the government, only a few paise reached the farmers. Today, every rupee reaches the intended recipient,” Chouhan said, underlining the game-changing role of DBT in transforming rural India.

Boosting Agricultural Productivity and Innovation

In his speech, Shri Chouhan emphasized various government schemes aimed at enhancing productivity and income. He particularly highlighted the Pradhan Mantri Dhan Dhanya Yojana, which targets improvement of per hectare yield, especially in low-productivity zones. Special attention was drawn to Bihar’s Makhana (fox nut) cultivation, which is gaining national prominence for its nutritional value and export potential.

The minister also reiterated the government's intent to connect agricultural research and scientific innovation directly to farmers, ensuring that technology and knowledge translate into better yields and profits on the ground.

Support Systems and Safety Nets for Farmers

Addressing farmer concerns regarding input availability and risk, Shri Chouhan assured the timely provision of fertilizers and pesticides and outlined compensation mechanisms for crop failures under various central schemes. He reaffirmed that government procurement now happens at the Minimum Support Price (MSP) with 50% profit over cost of production, benefiting millions of farming households.

"The Modi government is farmer-centric in its approach," he stated. "Our aim is not just to protect farmers but to empower them for long-term prosperity."

A Vision of Empowered Agriculture

As the event concluded, a clear message resonated through the gathering: empowering farmers is central to India’s growth story. The Centre’s continued investments and policy support in agriculture are designed to ensure food security, rural prosperity, and national development.

The Patna event was more than a ceremonial transfer of funds—it was a moment of reaffirmation that India stands with its farmers, and under PM Modi’s leadership, agriculture will remain a priority sector in the country's development roadmap.
