Bikram Singh Majithia, a prominent figure in the Shiromani Akali Dal, has had his judicial custody extended until August 14 by a court in Punjab's Mohali district. Majithia was arrested in June over charges of disproportionate assets.

Currently housed in the New Nabha jail in Patiala, Majithia was presented before the court via video conferencing. The Punjab Vigilance Bureau apprehended him on June 25, with his remand extended multiple times, indicating the complexity of the case.

The arrest is linked to more than Rs 540 crore in alleged 'drug money' laundering. The charges originated from a 2021 investigation into a drug-related case involving Majithia. Previously, in 2021, he faced charges under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, based on a 2018 report by an anti-drug Special Task Force.
