Meghalaya's opposition leader, Mukul Sangma, approached Governor Phagu Chauhan, urging immediate action to address the long-standing salary crisis affecting the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council employees.
Salaries have reportedly been delayed for 42 months, amounting to nearly Rs 300 crore in unpaid wages, a situation Sangma attributes to administrative neglect by the Conrad Sangma-led government and GHADC authorities.
An official from GHADC, speaking under anonymity, confirmed the severe backlog, stressing the need for a prompt resolution. Sangma has called for an urgent meeting with the chief minister and relevant departments to break the impasse.
