A Bangladeshi criminal, attempting to evade capture by masquerading as a monk, was arrested in West Bengal's Nadia district, police reported on Sunday.
The West Bengal STF, acting on a tip-off, executed a raid in the Tehatta area alongside local police on Saturday night, resulting in the arrest of 60-year-old Mohammed Hashem Mallik, also known as Hashem Ali Mallik, who is sought for multiple criminal offenses in Bangladesh, an official confirmed.
An investigation was launched following a complaint by Sub-Inspector Mohammed Abdun Noor Chowdhury of the Special Task Force. Hashem, operating under a fake Indian identity, was apprehended for lacking valid documentation, revealing during interrogation that he crossed the border to escape justice in Bangladesh.
