Congress Demands Action Against Pune Police for Alleged Harassment

Maharashtra Congress president Harshwardhan Sapkal has called for immediate action against Pune police officers purportedly involved in harassing three women and making casteist remarks during an investigation.

Sapkal expressed bewilderment over the absence of a first information report (FIR) against the accused officers and condemned the police for their alleged high-handedness.

The women have accused the police of physical harassment amid a probe concerning a missing woman's brief stay with them. Sapkal questioned the inaction against these officers, challenging whether senior police officials, including the police commissioner, are shielding them.

Additionally, Sapkal criticized the administration for failing to curb increasing criminal activities such as drug trafficking and gang violence in Pune. His remarks reference Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis's acknowledgment of rising 'dadagiri' (bullying) affecting Pune's development.
