Iran has executed a man identified as Rouzbeh Vadi, who was convicted of espionage for Israel, according to Mizan, the judiciary's news outlet. Vadi was accused of passing information related to a nuclear scientist killed in Israel's June attacks on Iran, though his specific job or organization remains undisclosed.
This execution forms part of a notable increase in recent actions against Iranians convicted of spying for Israel, with eight executions taking place this year. Mizan reported that Vadi's activities had significantly threatened both internal and external security, leading to substantial public disorder in the country.
The backdrop to these developments includes a significant escalation in hostilities during June, when Israel conducted 12 days of airstrikes targeting Iran's military leadership and nuclear experts. Iran responded with missile and drone attacks, underpinning the ongoing tension between the two nations.
