Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was granted bail by an MP-MLA court in Jharkhand's Chaibasa on Wednesday in relation to a defamation case involving alleged remarks against Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a 2018 rally.
Appearing before the court at approximately 10:55 am, Gandhi sought and was granted conditional bail, as confirmed by his legal counsel Pranav Daripa. The case, which was initially filed in Ranchi, was transferred to Chaibasa in 2021, following a petition from Gandhi's team requesting an exemption from personal appearance.
A second lawyer, Dheeraj Kumar, verified that the court dictated Gandhi's full cooperation in the trial. The defamation suit was initiated by Pratap Kumar, who claimed Gandhi's statements at the Chaibasa rally were defamatory towards Shah. Gandhi, also attending the funeral of tribal leader Shibu Soren, traveled to Chaibasa via a helicopter arranged from Ranchi, landing at the Tata College Ground.
