Opposition parties under the INDIA bloc have united to demand a parliamentary discussion on the critical issue of voter roll revision in Bihar. This pressing matter is deemed essential to safeguard the voting rights of all Indian citizens, as highlighted by Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha.
During a joint press conference held at Vijay Chowk, Kharge expressed concerns that minority groups, Dalits, and adivasis are at risk of having their voting rights stripped away. Despite repeated appeals to government officials, including the Speaker and Chairman, no progress has been made. Kharge emphasizes the government's unwillingness to address this 'special intensive revision' (SIR) of electoral rolls issue in Parliament.
Trinamool Congress leader Sagarika Ghose echoed these sentiments, announcing that protests will continue within and outside Parliament. Additionally, she noted that concerns will be raised regarding alleged attacks on Bengali-speaking individuals in BJP-ruled states. The INDIA bloc plans to march to the Election Commission office on August 11, underscoring the urgency and importance of this democratic matter.
