A Special Sub Inspector of the Tamil Nadu police was tragically killed as he intervened in a family dispute in Gudimangalam, the police confirmed. The incident has raised concerns about officer safety in the line of duty.

M Shanmugavel, aged 57, was on patrol with Armed Reserve Police constable Azhaguraja on the night of August 5. The officers responded to a disturbance call involving a drunken altercation between a father and son on a private farm.

Upon their arrival, an attempt to pacify the feuding pair turned fatal when one attacked Shanmugavel with a sickle. The constable was chased away, and Shanmugavel later succumbed to his injuries, leaving the community in mourning.
