In a grim incident underscoring law enforcement challenges in Tamil Nadu, a Special Sub Inspector was killed on duty. M Shanmugavel, 57, was hacked to death while trying to mediate a family dispute between a man and his sons in Gudimangalam.
The assault, which also targeted Armed Reserve Police constable Azhaguraja, highlighted the dangerous work conditions faced by police. Chief Minister M K Stalin expressed shock and ordered immediate action against the assailants, pledging a Rs one crore relief for Shanmugavel's family.
As six special teams pursue the suspects, AIADMK and political figures criticized the state's law and order situation. The incident drew widespread condemnation and raised pressing questions about police security and governance.
