Police in Kerala have seized ambergris, also known as whale vomit, valued at about Rs 2.5 crore in the international market. The bust led to the arrest of two individuals involved in its smuggling, authorities announced on Wednesday.
An operation was conducted following a tip-off, resulting in the arrest of a man in Mattancherry attempting to sell 35 grams of this rare substance. The suspect, identified as Suhail, resisted arrest, leading to a brief confrontation with officers.
Further investigations revealed an additional kilogram of ambergris, recovered from another man named Suhail, native to Kalpeni in Lakshadweep. The illegal trade of ambergris, a valuable ingredient in perfumes, is prohibited in India under the Wildlife Protection Act.
