Slovenia on Wednesday enacted a significant ban on the import of goods produced in Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories, signaling its legally and politically significant support for Palestinian sovereignty. Alongside this measure, the Slovenian government has approved an aid package aimed at providing critical supplies to Palestinians in the embattled Gaza Strip.
The Slovenian government's statement, as quoted by the STA news agency, emphasized the Israeli government's violations of international humanitarian law, referring to the illegal settlements and forced displacement of Palestinians. These actions, according to Prime Minister Robert Golob, undermine both the dignity of the Palestinian population and the foundations of the international order.
Further solidifying its stance, Slovenia acknowledged a Palestinian state last year and recently imposed an arms embargo against Israel. The measures come against a backdrop of continued tension between Israel and Hamas, with Slovenia allocating nearly 880,000 euros in humanitarian aid for Palestinians affected by the conflict.
