A Merchant Navy officer in Lucknow has been apprehended on charges of murdering his wife and trying to disguise it as a suicide, as confirmed by the local police on Wednesday.

Anurag Singh, aged 31 and residing at Omaxe Waterscapes apartments, was taken into custody after his father-in-law, Fateh Bahadur Singh, lodged a complaint. The complaint, filed on August 5, accused Anurag of harassing his wife, Madhu Singh, over abortion and dowry demands.

The police revealed that after an altercation on the night of August 3, Anurag allegedly strangled Madhu and attempted to stage a fake suicide scene. The charges against him include murder, spousal cruelty, and violations of the Dowry Prohibition Act. Anurag, currently serving as a Merchant Navy officer, is now in judicial custody awaiting further legal proceedings.
