In a swift response to the tragic death of a lorry driver at Chakmaghat, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha has taken decisive action, suspending Sub-Divisional Officer Parimal Majumdar and issuing a show cause notice to Khowai District Magistrate Rajat Pant. The driver, Mihir Lal Debnath, was trapped in the cabin of a cement-laden lorry after it collided with a tree, and died as a prolonged rescue operation could not save him.
The Chief Minister emphasized the state's commitment to justice, announcing the formation of a three-member committee, led by Revenue Secretary Brijesh Pandey, to investigate the incident. In a public statement, Saha shared his commitment to upholding public faith in the government, promising that a thorough inquiry would shed light on the circumstances and accountability.
Meanwhile, Deputy Collector Anjan Das admitted operational weaknesses during the rescue attempt, stating that the disaster response team faced a novel situation they were ill-prepared for. As the investigation begins, financial assistance of Rs 6 lakh has been sanctioned for the victim's family, and senior officials plan to visit the family to offer support.
