NDRF's Landmark Deployment in Uttarkashi

A team of 69 National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescuers, alongside two specially trained cadaver dogs, has launched rescue operations in Dharali village, Uttarkashi, following devastating floods. The NDRF is collaborating with Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and other entities to save stranded individuals and locate those lost beneath debris.
More than 300 pilgrims have been successfully evacuated by the ITBP from Gangotri to Mukhwa as part of the ongoing efforts. Meanwhile, authorities are assessing the scope of the damage, with roads severely damaged by extreme weather conditions. Despite challenges, expert teams continue their life-saving work in flooded regions.
For the very first time, the NDRF is utilizing cadaver dogs to aid in recovery missions, marking a significant shift in the agency's strategic approach. These dogs, part of a new initiative by the NDRF, are tasked with uncovering bodies buried under landslide debris or involved in accidents, providing necessary closure for families of the deceased.
