Gujarat Jeweller Faces Legal Action Over Diamond Fraud

In a startling case of alleged fraud, a jeweller from Gujarat has been implicated in a diamond scam reportedly involving precious stones valued at Rs 1.81 crore. The accused jeweller, Rajeshkumar Sharma, was charged following a complaint from a Mumbai-based diamond merchant.

According to the police, the victim, Rajesh Becharbhai Vithani, a partner in a diamond trading firm, was approached by Sharma in March. Sharma claimed to have an esteemed client eager to purchase high-quality diamonds. Trusting the proposition, Vithani handed over diamonds weighing 920.68 carats to Sharma.

Subsequent attempts to secure payment or reclaim the diamonds were met with evasion and excuses, prompting the merchant to approach the authorities. The police have registered a first information report under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, and investigations into the allegations are currently underway.
