A tragic incident occurred in Panbazar, where a person suspected of theft was killed, and another sustained injuries, following an assault allegedly by local shopkeepers. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) confirmed the attackers have been identified, with one already in custody.
The Panbazar police were alerted to the situation early Friday morning, with officers arriving to find Atul Das, a rickshaw puller, critically injured. He was rushed to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital but unfortunately passed away. A second victim is receiving treatment.
An ongoing investigation, led by the Criminal Investigation Department, aims to gather evidence. Local reports indicate regular thefts in the area, contributing to a charged atmosphere that may have led to the violent incident.
