A devastating cloudburst struck Chisoti village in Kishtwar district, claiming 62 lives and injuring 116 others. In response to this catastrophe, the Lieutenant Governor's administration assigned 10 senior IAS and IPS officers to oversee the relief and rescue operations.
The deadly incident occurred on August 14, resulting in flash floods that affected the last motorable village on the route to the Machail Mata temple. With 82 individuals reported missing, including 81 pilgrims, the administration has implemented a roster system to manage the continuous operations over the coming days.
Despite harsh weather, rescue teams, equipped with raincoats and earthmovers, persist in their efforts to locate survivors. The annual Machail Mata pilgrimage remains suspended during this challenging period, highlighting the severity of the situation.
