The Monsoon session of the Indian Parliament concluded after a series of disruptions that severely impacted legislative proceedings. The session, which commenced on July 21 and spanned 21 sittings, saw over 84 hours lost to adjournments, representing the highest level of disruption in the 18th Lok Sabha.
Despite the challenges, the government succeeded in introducing 14 bills, securing the passage of 12, including notable ones like the Online Gaming Bill and the Sports Governance Bill. However, private members' bills received no attention, as Parliament moved on without discussing or passing them.
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla emphasized the initial commitment to 120 hours of discussion, which fell short due to ongoing deadlocks. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju described the session as both successful and damaging, dividing opinion among government and opposition. The session also featured active parliamentary oversight with numerous reports and statements presented, though the Question Hour revealed limited oral responses.
