In a historic feat, Tamil Nadu's Vishal Thennarasu Kayalvizhi broke the men's 400m national record at the National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships on Thursday, clocking in at 45.12 seconds. The 21-year-old left his competitors trailing, cementing his position as the country's top quarter-miler.

Vishal's performance improved on the previous record of 45.21 seconds, held by Muhammed Anas since 2029. Despite narrowly missing the World Championships qualifying time of 44.85 seconds, he ranks as the fourth fastest Asian 400m runner this season.

The rising star entered the athletics scene in 2022 and quickly rose to prominence. This year, Vishal won the Federation Cup National Championships and claimed gold in the World Athletics Continental Tour bronze level meet, further solidifying his promising career.
