A Tamil Nadu Special Sub Inspector met a tragic end trying to mediate a family dispute in Gudimangalam. On patrol with Armed Reserve Police constable Azhaguraja, Officer M Shanmugavel intervened in a violent altercation between a father and his son.
Despite their efforts to de-escalate the situation, one of the men suddenly attacked Shanmugavel with a sickle. The assault proved fatal, and he succumbed to his injuries, authorities confirmed.
The incident, occurring at a private farm late in the evening, has raised safety concerns for officers in similar intervention roles, highlighting the risks involved in maintaining public safety.
