Curfew Imposed Along Meghalaya-Bangladesh Border Following Intrusion Incident

In response to a recent intrusion incident by armed men, authorities in Meghalaya's East Khasi Hills district have enforced a night curfew along the India-Bangladesh border. The curfew applies to a one-kilometer radius area, prohibiting movement from 8 PM to 6 AM.

This security measure, announced by District Magistrate R M Kurbah, will remain in effect for two months. It aims to prevent further incidents and enhance safety along the porous border. The district shares a 444-km-long boundary with Bangladesh, with certain sections remaining unfenced and vulnerable to cross-border activities.

The order additionally restricts assembly of five or more individuals and the crossing of the boundary for unlawful purposes. This decision comes after reported intrusions in the Bagli sector, where armed men allegedly attacked and attempted kidnapping. Ensuring border security remains a key priority.
