New Delhi is set to witness an increase in women police officers patrolling key areas on scooters, part of a safety initiative by Delhi Police. The initiative, titled Jhansi Patrolling Scooties, aims to make public spaces safer for women.
Officially launched at the Red Fort, these teams work alongside the Jaguar Patrolling Motorcycles, primarily operated by male officers, to ensure consistent street surveillance and enhance security. This dual approach is designed to bolster the police's response to street crimes.
According to authorities, crime-mapping data has informed the patrol routes to strategically cover hotspots, particularly those affecting women. The effort involves 71 Jaguar motorcycles and 15 Jhansi scooties, with plans to expand, aiming to make prominent districts safer and eventually inspire city-wide adoption.
