Prosecutors in Utah have charged Tyler Robinson, 22, with the murder of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, alleging the crime stemmed from political discord. Kirk was shot with a long-range rifle on September 10, as per the charges revealed on Tuesday.
The charges against Robinson include aggravated murder, felony discharge of a firearm, and violent offense committed in front of a child, in addition to obstruction of justice and witness tampering. Prosecutors claim Robinson meticulously planned Kirk's murder, motivated by disapproval of Kirk's political stance.
Details emerged that Robinson tried to persuade his roommate to delete incriminating text exchanges. Subsequently, Robinson turned himself in after a discussion with his parents, who became suspicious following the release of surveillance footage depicting the suspect on Utah Valley University's campus.
