Contentious Malegaon Blast Appeal: Incomplete Details Stall Progress in Bombay High Court

The Bombay High Court on Wednesday adjourned an appeal hearing concerning the acquittal of seven individuals regarding the 2008 Malegaon blast case. The delay was due to incomplete details provided about the family members of the blast victims. Among the acquitted were former BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur and Lt Col Prasad Purohit.

Previously, the High Court emphasized that not all parties could appeal the acquittal, seeking specific information about whether victims' relatives served as trial witnesses. Though a chart was submitted, the court, led by Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad, found it lacking adequate details and postponed the hearing.

The appeal filed alleges significant flaws in the investigative process and claims the National Investigation Agency diluted charges against the accused. It contests the special court's verdict, stating that the trial court acted as a passive observer and failed to convict due to unreliable evidence.
