The Technology Development Board (TDB), operating under the Department of Science & Technology (DST), has extended financial and technical support for a groundbreaking project in India’s electric mobility landscape—the development and commercialization of a 240-volt electric motorcycle platform. This first-of-its-kind technology in the Indian two-wheeler segment is being spearheaded by Raptee Energy Pvt. Ltd., Chennai, a deep-tech startup dedicated to sustainable mobility solutions.
A New Benchmark in Electric Two-Wheeler Technology
The introduction of a 240-volt DC architecture into motorcycles brings an advanced leap for India’s EV ecosystem. Until now, such high-voltage systems were largely limited to the electric car segment. By scaling this to two-wheelers, the platform enables:
-
Rapid charging comparable to electric cars.
-
Higher energy efficiency and longer range.
-
Direct compatibility with India’s expanding public charging networks, reducing dependence on specialized charging setups.
To complement this high-voltage framework, Raptee Energy has developed a specialized ARAI-certified battery pack. This not only meets safety and performance standards but also ensures reliability for mass adoption.
Indigenous Innovation and R&D Excellence
Raptee’s journey is rooted in over six years of in-house research and development. Its R&D unit, recognized by the Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR), has built expertise across the value chain, covering electronics, mechanical design, embedded software, and validation testing. This deep integration enables indigenous value creation, reducing reliance on imports and enhancing Aatmanirbhar Bharat goals.
The company has also emphasized smart connectivity features, including remote diagnostics and over-the-air software updates, ensuring that users benefit from seamless upgrades and predictive maintenance.
Sustainability at the Core
Beyond performance, the project underscores green manufacturing practices. Raptee Energy has pledged zero-waste operations and emission-free production, aligning with global climate commitments. This directly supports Sustainable Development Goals (SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 13: Climate Action) by promoting clean urban transport and reducing carbon footprints.
Government and Industry Voices
Highlighting the significance of the project, Sh. Rajesh Kumar Pathak, Secretary, TDB, said:
“High-voltage technology in electric two-wheelers opens new possibilities for faster adoption of EVs intended for a huge market in India. By supporting this project, TDB seeks to accelerate domestic innovation, strengthen local R&D capacity, and ensure that sustainable mobility solutions are developed and manufactured within the country.”
On behalf of Raptee Energy, Sh. Dinesh Arjun, CEO, added:
“TDB’s support validates our long-term R&D efforts and enables us to scale our high-voltage motorcycle platform. We see this as a significant step in creating indigenous, future-ready mobility solutions while contributing to India’s leadership in the global EV transition.”
A Step Toward India’s EV Leadership
India’s electric two-wheeler market is poised for exponential growth, with rising demand for clean and efficient mobility options. The introduction of high-voltage motorcycles represents a transformative moment, potentially reshaping how commuters experience EVs. With TDB’s support, Raptee Energy is set to position India not only as a major consumer of EVs but also as a global leader in electric mobility innovation.
