The Odisha Assembly witnessed an unusual episode when the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader appealed for the recovery of items allegedly stolen from the members during a March protest. The plea calls for action from Speaker Surama Padhy following the incident that supposedly involved anti-social elements inside the Assembly.
In March, Congress legislators staged a continuous protest inside the House, demanding an inquiry into rising crimes against women. During this time, belongings like gold chains and watches were reported stolen. CLP leader Rama Chandra Kadam's letter to the Speaker underscores the seriousness of the alleged theft.
The protest turmoil also led to the suspension of Congress MLAs for their disorderly conduct. Urging immediate action, the CLP leader expressed dismay over the lack of progress on their complaint. It was further alleged that intruders mishandled an MLA and that a staff member inadvertently injured another MLA during the chaotic night.
