In a daring escape, two inmates fled a remand home in Jharkhand's Gumla district by scaling a towering 30-foot wall using improvised ropes made of bedsheets. The incident, described by the police on Friday, occurred around midnight on Thursday, sparking a manhunt for the juveniles who had been initially detained for a minor crime.
Gumla SP Haris Bin Zaman reported that the inmates, who had no prior criminal records, were arrested earlier in the week for allegedly stealing tribal drums, known as nagaras. CCTV footage has since identified the escapees, and authorities remain hopeful about their capture. An investigation into security lapses is underway.
Despite attempts to reach Gumla's jail superintendent Avinash Kumar, calls went unanswered. Meanwhile, a police official detailed that the remand home's 30-foot-high wall was topped with barbed wire, yet the inmates successfully executed a meticulously planned escape, revealing gaps in the facility's security measures.
