Iran Criticizes European Powers Over Potential Sanctions

Iran has strongly criticized European powers for their proposed sanctions, claiming they are politically motivated. Tehran argues that the implications of these sanctions are manifold and are an improper use of mechanisms outlined in the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), according to Deputy Foreign Minister Saeed Khatibzadeh.

Amid unsuccessful talks with Iran, Europe intends to reinstate sanctions by end of the month. This follows unsuccessful negotiations in September meant to forestall this action, articulated by French President Emmanuel Macron. The E3, comprising Britain, France, and Germany, set a 30-day timeline beginning late August to activate what is termed the 'snapback mechanism'.

In response, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi proposed a detailed, actionable plan aimed at averting the sanctions. This proposal allows for negotiations with the U.S. and reinstates U.N. inspectors' access to Iran's nuclear facilities. However, tensions remain high with European powers due to the unpredictable consequences should diplomacy fail.
