The government of Manipur has issued a new notification prohibiting the registration of land transfer deeds from indigenous individuals to non-indigenous outsiders. However, transfers to permanent residents of the state are still permitted under specific conditions.
This regulation, taking immediate effect, mandates potential land buyers to seek approval from their respective district's deputy commissioner. All applications will undergo a thorough verification process by the Land Resources Department's internal committee before receiving government recommendations.
The amendments also stipulate that any land sales exceeding Rs 2 lakh must be conducted through secure payment methods, either via account-to-account transfer or cheque, as part of the enhanced transparency measures.
