The excise department reported 8,622 NDPS cases registered by August, reflecting both an escalation in drug inflow and intensified enforcement measures.
Arrests have mirrored this increase, with 8,505 people detained in drug-related offenses compared to prior years. A senior official from the Excise Department attributes this rise to an influx of drugs into the state and more rigorous detection operations, indicating a worrying trend of drug abuse.
In particular, the involvement of students in drug offenses has heightened concerns, with 312 student arrests recorded by August. This has resulted in strengthened surveillance and preventive measures around educational institutions to curb the spread of drug abuse among youths.
