Leh is facing a critical inquiry into the violent events of September 24, which witnessed four fatalities and numerous injuries. The inquiry, launched by the Leh deputy commissioner, comes amid rising tension over demands for statehood and constitutional safeguards.
Security forces in Leh opened fire last month during a shutdown organized by the Apex Body Leh, demanding negotiations with the central government. The incident resulted in the deaths of Jigmet Dorjey, Rinchen Dadul, Stanzin Namgail, and Tsewang Tharchin.
Sub Divisional Magistrate Nubra Mukul Beniwal has been tasked with the inquiry, aiming to understand the circumstances leading to the violence. Public assistance has been sought to ensure a transparent and fair investigation, with meetings scheduled from October 4 to 18.
