The political landscape in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) is tense after a series of violent protests prompted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to act. Sharif expanded the negotiation committee seeking ways to quell the unrest sparked by the Jammu Kashmir Joint Awami Action Committee's (JKJAAC) three-day strike.
Amid ongoing chaos, The News reported six civilian and three police casualties, with over 170 police officers injured, 12 critically. The protests, fueled by unresolved grievances, drew a strong appeal from Sharif for restraint and peaceful demonstrations, citing constitutional rights.
Amid escalating tensions, Sharif directed law enforcement to exercise caution. In an effort to de-escalate, local and federal leaders, including former PoK leaders and federal ministers, joined negotiations. Meanwhile, accusations fly between protestors, accusing each other of inciting violence, even as the committee reports progress in addressing protestor demands.
