In a significant development, Amoy Morang, the former director of Town Planning and Municipal Affairs of Arunachal Pradesh, has been arrested in Guwahati. Morang had been evading the authorities for over two years after being convicted in a cheque bounce case.
The court had found Morang guilty under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act on February 22, 2023, ordering him to pay Rs 1.74 crore along with an additional Rs 2 lakh for losses incurred by the complainant. However, Morang absconded, failing to adhere to the court's directives.
In response to his defiance, the court issued multiple non-bailable warrants, leading to his eventual capture in Guwahati. This arrest marks the culmination of a protracted pursuit by law enforcement agencies determined to bring Morang to justice.
