Tensions escalated in Manipur after a raid by police forces in Chandel district targeted a leader of the United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF), a group operating under a Suspension of Operations agreement. The UKLF voiced strong opposition, stating it will not maintain silence if such raids continue.
According to police, the operation was intended to arrest a suspected drug kingpin. The raid, which occurred late at night in the Sajik Tampak area, was conducted on credible intelligence, but the suspect evaded capture, police reported.
After the raid, police faced hostilities from a local mob. However, with the intervention of local leaders and support from Assam Rifles and CAPF, the situation was diffused, allowing police to withdraw safely.
