West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has raised strong objections against the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) for releasing 65,000 cusecs of water without prior notice, suggesting it was an attempt to create hardships during the festive period. The CM declared that the state government is prepared to confront what she describes as a conspiracy with full resolve.
In a post on social media platform X, CM Banerjee expressed her dismay, stating, "Bijoya Dashami should mark the culmination of Durga Puja with celebration and hope. Instead, DVC's unauthorized release of 65,000 cusecs of water has disrupted a peaceful conclusion. This unilateral action is reprehensible, imperiling millions in Bengal. It's a deliberate, not natural, disaster." She vowed to prevent any further sabotage against Bengal, asserting that truth and justice will ultimately prevail.
Banerjee reiterated her previous criticisms of DVC regarding similar water management issues, attributing severe flooding in South Bengal to the agency's actions. She termed the incident a 'man-made catastrophe,' accusing the central entity of being antagonistic toward Bengal. As the latter part of the festival saw traditional celebrations like 'Sindoor Khela,' despite allegations, revelers partook in the joy of Durga Puja, enjoying rituals and cultural exchanges, with even foreigners participating in the vibrant festivities.
