The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is intensifying efforts to combat food adulteration with a state-wide inspection drive during the festive season, announced FDA Minister Narhari Zirwal on Friday.

Under the initiative 'San Maharashtra Cha — Sankalp Ann Surakshecha', over 1,594 establishments have undergone scrutiny, with 2,369 samples such as milk and sweets collected. Of the 554 samples tested so far, 26 were substandard and 11 were deemed unsafe, Zirwal reported.

Efforts to fortify the FDA include recruiting over 200 new positions, with proposals for an additional 750 roles and expanded testing facilities. A budget of Rs 200 crore has been approved for lab infrastructure enhancements, alongside funding for vaccine and anti-snake venom production.
