On Friday, the Delhi Police informed a court about new criminal charges against Chaitanyananda Saraswati, a self-styled godman accused of molesting 17 female students at a private management institute. The additional charge involves threatening a complainant to give false evidence, escalating the legal proceedings against the controversial figure.
Saraswati, aged 62, was physically produced before the judicial magistrate Animesh Kumar after a five-day police remand. The court subsequently remanded him to 14 days in judicial custody despite objections from his counsel. Earlier accusations include sexual harassment and criminal intimidation, to which the recent charges have been added.
More revelations about Saraswati's alleged activities came to light during the investigation. Police reports indicate misuse of funds, the creation of fake documents, and suspicious banking activities including multiple accounts and significant withdrawals. The self-styled godman's ties to international organizations such as the United Nations and BRICS were also questioned due to fake visiting cards found in his possession.
