Madhya Pradesh Health Minister Clarifies on Cough Syrup Contamination Link
Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Rajendra Shukla clarified his remarks denying links between cough syrup and child deaths in Chhindwara. In response to media queries, Madhya Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister and Health Minister Rajendra Shukla clarified his earlier comments, denying a connection between cough syrup consumption and the deaths of six children in Chhindwara district. Shukla emphasized that he referred only to three specific syrups which contamination tests found harmless.
Dr. Pawan Nandurkar from Chhindwara Institute of Medical Sciences reported nine child fatalities under investigation. At a press conference in Narsinghpur, Shukla noted, "Results for three out of twelve medicines have returned clear, but we await further reports this evening. Until then, conclusive statements cannot be made."
Joint Director of Drugs Control Tina Yadav in Bhopal confirmed the ongoing examination of all relevant samples. As authorities anticipate test results, they are evaluating preventive measures and tracing the supply chain to prevent future incidents.
