West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee openly criticized the Damodar Valley Corporation on Friday for releasing 65,000 cusecs of water supposedly without prior notification to the state government. This act, she claimed, led to a flood-like condition in the southern districts of Bengal during Bijoya Dashami celebrations on September 2.
In a forceful social media statement, Banerjee condemned the water discharge as 'reckless' and 'shameful', insisting the move endangered countless lives. 'Bijoya Dashami should be a time for joy, yet the DVC's actions have brought misery,' she said, accusing the agency of manufacturing a disaster rather than a natural event.
Banerjee further warned against potential conspiracies, emphasizing that any attempt to 'immerse' Bengal would be met with resistance. Meanwhile, district administrations remain on high alert to monitor threatened riverbank areas, as the DVC has yet to offer an immediate response.
