A recent incident at a Manchester synagogue ended tragically when police action to neutralize an attacker resulted in unintended casualties. GMP officers, responding to the threat, fired shots, not knowing the suspect, Jihad Al Shamie, was unarmed.
Jihad Al Shamie had no firearm, prompting officers to respond with urgent force. Sadly, this resulted in the fatal shooting of one person. A second victim, also shot, is currently receiving medical care, according to a police statement released on Friday.
Both shooting victims were behind the synagogue's doors at the time of the police's intervention. Further forensic investigations are underway to verify the sequence of events that led to this unfortunate outcome.
