Tensions Rise: Israeli Navy Intercepts Aid Flotilla Amid Global Protests

The Israeli military intercepted the final boat in an aid flotilla aiming to reach the blockaded Gaza Strip on Friday. This interception followed the previous capture of most vessels and detention of around 450 activists, including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.

The Global Sumud Flotilla reported that its last vessel, the Marinette, was intercepted about 42.5 nautical miles from Gaza. Israeli navy forces detained those on board and redirected the ship to the port of Ashdod. Organizers accused Israeli forces of illegally intercepting all 42 vessels aimed at breaking the blockade.

A second flotilla, with 11 vessels including medics and journalists, continued its journey towards Gaza. The flotilla's movements occur against a backdrop of international condemnation following Israel's offensive actions in Gaza post-Hamas attacks in October 2023.
