Delhi Police has seized approximately 1,600 kg of banned firecrackers and arrested six men in multiple operations conducted across the national capital as Diwali approaches, officials announced on Sunday.
The crackdown was executed by the Delhi Police crime branch in various locations such as Dwarka, Rohini, Uttam Nagar, and Shahdara under Deputy Commissioner of Police Pankaj Kumar. It aligns with Supreme Court orders to curb firecracker storage and sales to combat air pollution.
Among those arrested was Akash Gupta, apprehended after a major haul of banned fireworks was found in his home. Further arrests included pick-up driver Chander Kant and Rishi Raj, who were found with additional stocks. These operations aim to address deteriorating air quality in the capital during winter.
